Introducing the Zebra EM45 RFID

Video

We met up with Greg Carras at Stratix’s, SKO and Partner Expo to get a firsthand look at Zebra’s new EM 45.

My name is Greg Carras. I’m a regional portfolio manager for Zebra Technologies, and I’d like to introduce you today to the EM 45, which is the latest device of Zebra Technologies that puts the power of Zebra in your pocket. It’s a device that’s designed for the consumer, but it’s built for the enterprise.

One of the great things about this device is biometric fingerprint authentication. So you just touch your device to unlock it and gain access to all of your applications and tools that you would use in the course of the day. And you notice that this device is very small and very thin, very much like a consumer smartphone.

What we’ve done is that we’ve eliminated that removable battery, but it’s serviceable inside the device. Through our Z1C service offering, we can offer replacements for the device through the course of its lifecycle. You’ll also noticed that there’s no scan engine,
in this device reading barcodes. What we’ve done is added a 50 megapixel camera to the back end the unit, which allows you to quickly and easily read barcodes utilizing this high resolution camera.

The benefits of the small form factor, the EM45, this course is pocket ability. You carry it with you the course today, just like a cell phone. The difference between barcode scanning and RFID is that with barcode scanning is a one-to-one scanning. With a barcode read you scan or read the one barcode. With RFID you have one device that can read many RFID tags in a single instance.

The near field RFID capability with the EM45 allows you to quickly and easy isolate and read RFID tags within the three to four foot range of the device. The difference of the EM45 from previous mobile computing devices enabled to RFID is the form factor and footprint.

Larger devices had to have a larger antenna, a larger battery to be able to read RFID tags. With the EM45, you have the first device that’s in smartphone form factor that is enabled for reading RFID tests. The EM45 RFID device can be used in healthcare for applications such as patient tracking and medical equipment.

The EM45 has a 25 hour battery life, but also charges very quickly going from zero to 50% and under Ferdy mills, the EM45 supports 5G connectivity WiFi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3. As far as durability goes, the EM45 is a four foot drop that goes to five foot with a productive boot. It supports 600 half meter tumbles is IP 65 and IP 68 SEAL EM45 vault designed for the consumer is built for the enterprise.
