Stratix and AT&T Provide Legacy Hospice with Essential Communication Tool Powered by Google Pixel
Case Study
Caregivers have secure connections with emergency responders—even during a disaster
Headquartered in Alabama and serving five states, Legacy Hospice provides comprehensive care to enhance the quality of life for individuals with terminal illnesses. The focus is on comfort, dignity, and emotional support. The goal is to allow patients to live their remaining days as comfortably and meaningfully as possible in their own homes, surrounded by their loved ones.
Legacy Hospice’s Emergency Needs
Because of its role in supporting both patients and hospitals, Legacy Hospice caregivers could be called on to assist vulnerable people in their homes during a disaster or large-scale emergency. That means they need to be able to connect to AT&T’s FirstNet, which is a cellular network dedicated to first responders and the agencies that support them. FirstNet was established after the September 11 attacks, when congestion on public cellular networks made it difficult for first responders to talk to each other. FirstNet operates on separate frequencies, ensuring communication even during a disaster.
The Solution
Stratix, leveraging our deep experience in the healthcare sector, identified Pixel 7a as the optimal solution for Legacy’s challenge. Working with AT&T, we helped Legacy Hospice deploy 200 Pixel 7a’s that can connect to FirstNet. Pixels are designed with healthcare organizations in mind. They can be easily managed, bulk-deployed with essential applications, and benefit from Google’s periodic Pixel Drops* —feature updates that ensure that Pixels remain secure and up-to-date.
The Outcome
Now that the Google Pixel 7a phones have been deployed, Legacy Hospice workers have the tools they need to communicate with other first responders in an emergency. FirstNet’s nationwide communications platform allows efficient and effective coordination of emergency responses across agencies and jurisdictions.
“FirstNet will help Legacy Hospice better coordinate our assistance to patients who are some of the most vulnerable during disasters or other emergency situations,” explained Andrew Lofaso, CPA, Legacy Hospice VP of Finance and Controller. “We need to be able to help our patients no matter what, and these communication tools will ensure we can communicate wherever and whenever we need to.”
